Together, we walk into the living room to find Geo sitting on the old, worn sofa, with a girl I don’t know in his lap, her long legs hanging over the side of the couch, her heels pointing out sexily, and her breasts in Geo’s face.

Literally.

If she had no top on, his lips would be nibbling on bare flesh.

I look to the right to find a vaguely familiar face, though I don’t bother trying to place it.

Too many people at Piper’s Lane.

Too many years ago.

Squeezing my hand gently, Bryan nods toward the friend and grins. “Bert, this is Reilly. Reilly, my wife, Chantelle. You may say hello. You may not hug her.”

Geo barks out a laugh, but my face simply burns. After all these years, he still insists on peeing on my leg.

Stepping forward, I extend my hand. “Hey, Reilly. You can call me Nelly.”

He doesn’t stand, since another girl I don’t know sits across his lap and refuses to let him up, but he smiles and leans forward to take my hand. “Nice to meetcha, Nelly. I remember you from school.”

“You do?”

He nods. “I was one grade above you. A grade below these guys. I was friends with him, which means I knew who you were.”

The girl on his lap scowls like a pissed off cat.

“I remember you from the races that one time.”

He nods proudly. “Still go down there.”

“You race?”

“Yeah. Won a new car last weekend.”

“You won a car?” I turn to Bryan. “You told me you raced for money.”

He pulls me into his chest and buzzes his stubble along my temple. “Different races. Different stakes. But the bet’s laid out before you drive up. I raced for money most of the time.”

“Most of the time? But not always?”

“Not always.” He leads me to a love seat and pulls me into his lap. “I raced for pink slips one time. Won a brand-new Mustang.”

“You won the Mustang?” I look from Bryan’s face, to Geo’s, to Reilly’s. “It’s like I don’t even know you!”

Bryan chuckles. “How else do you think I got that car? I didn’t pay for the damn thing, that’s for sure.”

“But what car did you have before that? What did you bet?”

He shrugs and accepts a cup of soda when Geo hands it over. Pressing it to my hands, he drops a kiss on my lips. “I had a ‘69 Camaro.”

“Sexy car,” Reilly adds.

“True. Sexy car,” Bryan agrees. “But mine wasn’t sexy. Mine was trashed. The paint was awful. The body was half rusted away. The seats were torn and the springs ripped my jeans more often than I could afford to replace them. But the engine was sparkling, so it won me a brand-new car. I gave the other guy my Camaro, since I had no use for it and no way to get it home if I took the Mustang.” He flashes a fun smile. “And I was for sure taking his Mustang. First time I ever rode in a brand-new car. Possibly the last time, since we have better things to spend our money on now.
